WrestleMania XV was the fifteenth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view event from the World Wrestling Federation. The event was held in the First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1999. The tagline for WrestleMania XV was The Ragin Climax.

Match results

Sunday Night HEAT match: Jacqueline vs. Ivory

Jacqueline pinned Ivory by pinfall

Sunday Night HEAT Battle Royal

The participants were: DLo Brown, Test, Steve Blackman, Bradshaw, Brian Christopher, Skull, 8-Ball, Droz, Faarooq, Gillberg, The Godfather, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Hawk, Animal, Mideon, Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge, Tiger Ali Singh, Scott Taylor and Viscera

The last two surviving men in the match would win a shot at the WWF World Tag Team Championship later tonight. Test and DLo Brown won the match.

Hardcore match for the WWF Hardcore Championship: Billy Gunn (c) vs. Hardcore Holly vs. Al Snow

Near the end of the match, Gunn hit Snow with a Fameasser onto a steel chair but was only able to get a two-count. Holly then knocked Gunn out with a chair and pinned Snow to win the WWF Hardcore Championship.

For the WWF World Tag Team Championship: Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett (w/Debra) (c) vs. Test and DLo Brown (w/Ivory)

Jarrett pinned Brown to win after Owen dropkicked Brown into Jarretts roll-up. Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett retained the WWF World Tag Team Championship.

Brawl for All: Butterbean vs. Bart Gunn (w/Vinny Paz as special guest referee)

In a quick match, Butterbean beat Bart Gunn in 38 seconds after knocking Gunn out with a haymaker. After the match, The San Diego Chicken came out and took light out of Paz. As a result, Paz knocked out the chicken.

Mankind vs. The Big Show

The winner of the match gets to be the special guest referee the main event. Mankind defeated Big Show by disqualification after Big Show chokeslamed Mankind through two steel chairs. After the match, Vince McMahon comes out and complains to Big Show about letting The Corporation down. Big Show retaliated with a punch. While Mankind is carried off to hospital and McMahon is taken out back by Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco, Mr. McMahon asks for Big Show to be arrested for assault.

Four Corners Elimination Match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship: Road Dogg (c) vs. Ken Shamrock vs. Goldust (w/The Blue Meanie and Ryan Shamrock) vs. Val Venis

Ken Shamrock and Val Venis later in the match started to fight outside of the ring, eliminating each other with a double count-out. Road Dogg pinned Goldust to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship when Ryan Shamrock accidently tripped up Goldust.

* Meanwhile, The Big Show is taken in a police car and sent to the police station. Before the next match, The San Diego Chicken came out again and tried to attack Kane. Kane pulled the mask off the chicken to reveal him to be Pete Rose, wanting revenge for the Tombstone Piledriver he got last year. Kane then gave Rose another Tombstone Piledriver.

Kane vs. Triple H

Kane defeated Triple H by disqualification after Chyna attacked Kane with a steel chair. Triple H and Chyna then reunited.

* Vince McMahon made an announcement, declaring that with Mankind and Big Show both unable to referee the main event, he will be the special guest referee instead.

For the WWF Womens Championship: Sable (c) vs. Tori

Sable defeated Tori by pinfall after Tori was attacked by a debuting Nicole Bass, followed by a Sable Bomb. Sable retained the WWF Womens Championship.

For the European Championship: Shane McMahon (w/Test) (c) vs. X-Pac

During the match, X-Pac fought off interference from Test, the Mean Street Posse but eventually lost when Triple H and Chyna came and turned on X-Pac. Triple H hit the Pedigree on X-Pac, letting Shane McMahon defeat X-Pac by pinfall to retain the WWF European Championship.

Hell in a Cell match: The Undertaker (w/Paul Bearer) vs. Big Boss Man

The Undertaker defeated Big Boss Man by pinfall following a Tombstone Piledriver. After the match, The Brood came down from the ceiling and lowered a noose into the cell. There, Undertaker hanged Big Boss Man off the top of the cell.

* Before Vince McMahon could make himself referee, WWF Commissioner Shawn Michaels came out and preventing this move happening, stating that only the Commissioner could decided on who referees what match.

For the WWF World Heavyweight Championship: The Rock (c) vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (w/Mankind as special guest referee)

During the match, a few referees were taken out by Stone Cold (accidently), The Rock and Vince McMahon. However, Mankind made his return and took over as referee. Austin defeated The Rock by pinfall after a Stone Cold Stunner. Stone Cold Steve Austin is the new WWF World Heavyweight Champion.

Trivia

  • Steve Austin won the WWF Championship from The Rock, making him the first man to win the title at two consecutive WrestleMania events.
  • The Hardcore Championship match at WrestleMania XV was the first match with the Hardcore Title on the line in WM history.
  • This was the first Wrestlemania booked by writing Vince Russo and Ed Ferrera.
  • WrestleMania XV marked the final WrestleMania appearances for Gorilla Monsoon and Owen Hart; both of whom would ultimately pass away in 1999.
  • The judges for the Brawl for All included Gorilla Monsoon, Chuck Wepner, and Kevin Rooney. The match was refereed by Vinnie Paz.
  • The Brawl for All was the first (and only) shoot fight in the history of Wrestlemania.
  • This was the first WrestleMania where the Undertaker did not compete in a normal match and his last WrestleMania as The Phenom until this gimmick returned at WrestleMania XX. He was injured during the fall of 1999 and he appeared under his biker gimmick from WrestleMania X-Seven up to WrestleMania XIX.
  • This was the first (and, as of WrestleMania 21, the only) WrestleMania to have a Hell in a Cell match.
  • Michael Cole was advertising WWF products during this pay-per-view on one of its commercials between matches. He mentioned merchandise of both The Rock and the New Champion (Steve Austin) before the match even took place. It is unclear if this was edited out from later VHS and DVD releases, since this was heard during the live feed when at the time of the event took place.
  • This was the last WrestleMania to feature red ring ropes. Every WrestleMania since then has used black ring ropes.
