WWE Unforgiven is a pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling
Entertainment, which usually takes place every September. It originally started
out as a In Your House pay-per-view event in April and featured the infamous
Inferno Match between The Undertaker and Kane. Since 2003, it has been a RAW
brand-exclusive pay-per-view.
Kane holds the record for most times competed at Unforgiven. He fought at every
Unforgiven until 2005, and holds a win-loss record of 3-4.
Yearly Results
1998
Unforgiven 1998 was the 21st pay-per-view under the In Your House name from the
World Wrestling Federation. It took place on April 26, 1998 from the Greensboro
Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina and had an attendance 21.427.
* Faarooq, Ken Shamrock and Steve Blackman defeated The Nation of Domination
(The Rock, D'lo Brown and Mark Henry) (w/The Godfather)(13:07)
o Faarooq pinned Rock after a Dominator.
* Triple H (w/Chyna) defeated Owen Hart to retain the WWF European
Championship(12:38)
o Triple H pinned Hart after X-Pac hit Hart with a fire extinguisher.
o Chyna was suspended in a cage over the ring, but escaped after Road Dogg
lowered the cage.
* The New Midnight Express (Bodacious Bart and Bombastic Bob) (w/Jim Cornette)
defeated The Rock 'n' Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson to retain the
NWA World Tag Team Championship(7:20)
o Bart pinned Gibson after a bulldog.
* Luna Vachon (w/The Artist Formely Known As Goldust) defeated Sable in an
Evening Gown Match(2:35)
o Luna ripped off Sable's dress while Sable was distracted by Marc Mero.
* The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and Road Dogg) defeated L.O.D. 2000 (Animal
and Hawk) to retain the WWF Tag Team Championships(12:13)
o Road Dogg pinned Animal when Animal failed to get his shoulders up during a
German suplex pin.
* The Undertaker defeated Kane (w/Paul Bearer) in a Inferno Match(15:57)
o Undertaker won the match by setting Kane's arm on fire.
o This was the first Inferno Match in WWF history.
* Dude Love defeated WWF Champion Steve Austin(18:52)
o Austin was Disqualified by Gerald Brisco for hitting Vince McMahon with a
steel chair, as a result Austin retained the title.
1999
Unforgiven 1999 took place on September 26, 1999 from the Charlotte Coliseum in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
* Val Venis defeated Steve Blackman (w/The Brooklyn Brawler as Special Guest
Referee)(6:33)
o Venis pinned Blackman after the Money Shot.
* D'Lo Brown defeated Mark Henry (w/Tom Prichard as Special Guest Referee) to
win the WWF European Championship (9:11)
o Brown pinned Henry after the Lo-Down.
* Jeff Jarrett (w/Miss Kitty) defeated Chyna (w/Harvey Wippleman as Special
Guest Referee) to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship(11:52)
o Chyna was Disqualified after Debra hit Jarrett with his own guitar, as a
result Jarrett retained the title. The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young also
interfered.
o Chyna originally won by pinfall after the guitar shot, but head scab referee
Tom Prichard came out and reversed the decision and DQ'd Chyna.
* The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradshaw) defeated The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and
D-Von)((7:28)
o Faarooq pinned D-Von after interference from Steven Richards.
o The referee for the match was Jim Korderas, who was the only regular WWF
referee not to go on strike.
* Ivory defeated Luna Vachon in a Hardcore match to retain the WWF Women's
Championship(3:37)
o Ivory pinned Luna after hitting her with a pipe.
* The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and Road Dogg) defeated Edge and Christian to
retain the WWF Tag Team Championship(11:09)
o Gunn pinned Edge after a Fame-Ass-Er.
o The referee was non-striking ref Jim Korderas.
* Al Snow (w/Head) defeated The Big Boss Man in a Kennel from Hell match to
retain the WWF Hardcore Championship(11:42)
o Snow won by escaping both cages after hitting Big Boss Man with Head.
* X-Pac defeated Chris Jericho (w/Curtis Hughes) (w/Tom Prichard as Special
Guest Referee)(13:10)
o Jericho was Disqualified after Hughes attacked the referee. Road Dogg also
interfered.
* Triple H defeated The Rock, Mankind, Kane, The Big Show and The British
Bulldog in a Six-Pack Challenge to win the WWF Championship(20:28)
o Triple H pinned Rock after a Pedigree to win the vacant title.
o The original referee was Jim Kordaris, but the striking referee's came down
and attacked him, so Steve Austin took over as ref.
o The Undertaker was originally suppose to be in the match and was even featured
on the promotional poster, but was unable to compete due to nagging injuries. He
also was going through a divorce at this time with his first wife, Jodie Lynn,
so he also had several legal matters to deal with.
Note: The WWF referees were on storyline strike, so all the matches had guest
referees as scabs.
2000
Unforgiven 2000 took place on September 24, 2000 from the First Union Center in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
* Right to Censor (Steven Richards, Val Venis, Bull Buchanan, and The Goodfather)
defeated The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) and The APA (Faarooq and
Bradshaw(6:04)
o Venis pinned Bubba Ray after Richards hit a Steven Kick on Bubba.
* Tazz defeated Jerry Lawler in a Strap Match(5:05)
o Tazz made Lawler submit with the Tazzmission.
* Steve Blackman was the final winner in a 10-Minute Hardcore Battle Royal for
the WWF Hardcore Championship where all the winnners won the Hardcore Title.
Also involved were: Test, Perry Saturn, Crash Holly, Al Snow, and Funaki(10:00)
o Crash pinned Blackman while fighting outside(3:54)
o Saturn pinned Crash after hitting him with a trashcan lid(4:06)
o Blackman pinned Saturn(9:01)
* Chris Jericho defeated X-Pac(9:03)
o Jericho forced X-Pac to submit with the Walls of Jericho.
* The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff) defeated Edge and Christian in a Steel cage
match to win the WWF Tag Team Championship(13:33)
o The Hardy Boyz won by escaping the cage after hitting a Con-chair-to on Edge.
* Eddie Guerrero (w/Chyna)defeated Rikishi to retain the WWF Intercontinental
Championship(6:03)
o Rikishi was disqualified after attacking Chyna.
* Triple H defeated Kurt Angle (w/Mick Foley as Special Guest Referee) in a No
DQ match(17:26)
o Triple H pinned Angle after a Pedigree.
* Steve Austin was looking for who ran him down the year prior. Steve Blackman
was accused by Shane McMahon of being the culprit, but it was just to get
revenge on him from SummerSlam the month before and both ended up getting Stone
Cold Stunners.
* The Rock defeated Chris Benoit, The Undertaker and Kane in a Fatal Four-Way
match to retain the WWF Championship(15:18)
o Rock pinned Benoit after a Rock Bottom.
2001
Unforgiven 2001 took place on September 23, 2001 from the Mellon Arena in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. America the Beautiful was performed by Jennifer
Holliday.
* Sunday Night HEAT match: Billy Gunn defeated Tommy Dreamer(3:12)
o Gunn pinned Dreamer.
* The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) defeated The Big Show and Spike Dudley,
Lance Storm and The Hurricane, and The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff) in a Fatal
Four-Way Elimination match to retain the WWF Tag Team Championship(14:21)
o Big Show pinned Storm after a Chokeslam(6:52)
o Matt pinned Spike after a Twist Of Fate(7:57)
o D-Von pinned Matt after a Bubba Bomb by Bubba Ray(14:21)
* Perry Saturn defeated Raven (w/Terri)(5:07)
o Saturn pinned Raven after a Three Handled Moss Covered Family Credenza.
* Christian defeated Edge to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship(11:53)
o Christian pinned Edge with a roll-up after a low blow.
* The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane) defeated KroniK (Brian
Adams and Bryan Clark) (w/Steven Richards) to retain the WCW World Tag Team
Championship(10:22)
o Undertaker pinned Clark after a Chokeslam.
* Rob Van Dam defeated Chris Jericho to retain the WWF Hardcore
Championship(16:33)
o RVD pinned Jericho after a Five-Star Frog Splash and a distraction by
Stephanie McMahon.
* The Rock defeated Booker T and Shane McMahon in a Handicap match to retain the
WCW World Heavyweight Championship(15:23)
o Rock pinned Booker T after a Rock Bottom.
* Rhyno defeated Tajiri (w/Torrie Wilson) to win the WCW United States
Championship(4:50)
o Rhyno pinned Tajiri after a Gore.
* Kurt Angle defeated Steve Austin to win the WWF Championship(23:12)
o Angle forced Austin to submit with an Ankle Lock.
o After the match Angle celebrated with his family inside the ring, then the WWF
roster came out to congratulate him.
2002
Unforgiven 2002 took place on September 22, 2002 from the Staples Center in Los
Angeles, California. The official theme song was "Adrenaline" by Gavin Rossdale.
This was the first PPV to feature WWE Championship and World Heavyweight
Championship matches in one night Though its logo had some variations, at its
core this is the same Unforgiven logo used from 2002 through the present.
* Sunday Night HEAT match: Rey Mysterio defeated Chavo Guerrero (8:58)
o Mysterio pinned Guerrero after a West Coast Pop.
* Kane, Goldust, Booker T and Bubba Ray Dudley defeated The Un-Americans (Lance
Storm, Christian, William Regal and Test)(9:59)
o Kane pinned Storm after a Chokeslam.
* Chris Jericho defeated Ric Flair to retain the WWE Intercontinental
Championship(6:16)
o Jericho forced Flair to submit with the Walls of Jericho.
* Eddie Guerrero defeated Edge(11:55)
o Guerrero pinned Edge with sunset flip off the middle rope.
* Three Minute Warning (Rosey and Jamal) defeated Billy Gunn and Chuck
Palumbo(6:38)
o Jamal pinned Gunn after a Super samoan drop.
* Triple H defeated Rob Van Dam to retain the World Heavyweight
Championship(18:17)
o Triple H pinned RVD after a Pedigree and Ric Flair hit him with a
sledgehammer.
* Trish Stratus defeated Molly Holly to win the WWE Women's Championship(5:46)
o Stratus pinned Molly after a Bulldog.
* Chris Benoit defeated Kurt Angle(13:55)
o Benoit pinned Angle with his feet on the ropes.
* As a result of Three Minute Warning winning earlier, Stephanie McMahon had to
peform "Hot Lesbian Action". One of the lesbians turned out to be Rikishi, who
ended ended up giving Eric Bischoff a Stinkface.
* WWE Champion Brock Lesnar fought The Undertaker to a no-contest(20:27)
o The match was declared a no contest after the referee lost control during a
brawl between the two men, as a result Lesnar retained the title.
2003
Unforgiven 2003 took place on September 21, 2003 from the Giant Center in
Hershey, Pennsylvania. The official theme song for the event was "Enemy" by
Sevendust. "Suffocate" by Cold was the theme song for the main event.
* Sunday Night HEAT match: Maven defeated Steven Richards (w/Victoria)(5:13)
o Maven pinned Richards after a Tornado DDT.
* The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) defeated Rob Conway and La Résistance
(Sylvain Grenier and René Duprée) in a Handicap Tables match to win the World
Tag Team Championship(10:17)
o The Dudley Boyz put Duprée through the final table to win the titles.
o Spike Dudley was scheduled to be in the match but had to be pulled out due to
injury, turning it into a handicap match.
* Test (w/Stacy Keibler) defeated Scott Steiner(6:56)
o Test pinned Steiner after Stacy accidently hit Steiner with a steel chair.
o As a result of losing, Steiner had to become the Test's property. If Test had
lost, then Stacy would have been freed from Test.
* Randy Orton (w/Ric Flair) defeated Shawn Michaels(18:47)
o Orton pinned Michaels after hitting him with a pair of brass knuckles.
* Trish Stratus and Lita defeated Molly Holly and Gail Kim(6:46)
o Lita pinned Molly after a Moonsault.
* Kane defeated Shane McMahon in a Last Man Standing match(19:42)
o Kane won the match when Shane couldn't get up after missing a Shooting Star
Press off of the TitanTron.
* Christian defeated Chris Jericho and Rob Van Dam in a Triple Threat match to
retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship(19:03)
o Christian pinned RVD after hitting him with the title belt.
* Al Snow and Jonathan Coachman defeated Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler(8:16)
o Coach pinned JR after a dropkick by Chris Jericho.
o The winners of this match won the right to be the announcers for RAW.
* Goldberg defeated Triple H to win the World Heavyweight Championship(14:57)
o Goldberg pinned Triple H after a Jackhammer.
o If Goldberg had loss the match he would have had to permanently retire from
wrestling.
2004
Unforgiven 2004 took place on September 12, 2004 from the Rose Garden Arena in
Portland, Oregon. The official theme song was "Survival Of The Sickest" by
Saliva.
* Sunday Night HEAT match: Maven defeated Rodney Mack (w/Jazz)(4:42)
o Maven pinned Mack with a roll-up after Mack collided with Jazz.
* Chris Benoit and William Regal defeated Ric Flair and Batista(15:05)
o Benoit made Flair submit to the Crippler Crossface.
* Trish Stratus (w/Tyson Tomko) defeated Victoria to retain the WWE Women's
Championship(8:21)
o Trish pinned Victoria after a Stratusfaction.
o Tomko tried to attack Victoria after the match until she was saved by a man in
drag(Steven Richards). Tomko challenged him to a match.
* Tyson Tomko defeated Steven Richards(6:24)
o Tomko pinned Richards after a modified swinging neckbreaker.
* Chris Jericho defeated Christian in a Ladder match to win the vacant WWE
Intercontinental Championship(22:29)
o Jericho won the match by retrieving the belt.
* Shawn Michaels defeated Kane in a No Disqualification Match(18:02)
o HBK pinned Kane after the Sweet Chin Music.
* La Résistance (Sylvain Grenier and Robert Conway) defeated Tajiri and Rhyno to
retain the World Tag Team Championship(9:40)
o Grenier pinned Rhyno after hitting him with the Quebec Flag.
* Triple H defeated Randy Orton to win the World Heavyweight Championship
(24:44)
o Triple H pinned Orton after a Pedigree onto a steel chair.
o Jonathan Coachman, Ric Flair and Batista all interfered during the match on
HHH's behalf.
2005
Unforgiven 2005 took place on September 18, 2005 from the Ford Center in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The official theme song was "Calling" by Taproot.
* Sunday Night HEAT match: Rob Conway defeated Tajiri(3:44)
o Conway pinned Tajiri.
* Ric Flair defeated Carlito to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship(11:46)
o Flair made Carlito submit to the Figure Four Leglock.
* Trish Stratus and Ashley Massaro defeated Vince's Devils (Victoria and Torrie
Wilson) (w/Candice Michelle)(7:05)
o Trish pinned Victoria after a Chick Kick.
* The Big Show defeated Snitsky(6:11)
o Big Show pinned Snitsky after a Chokeslam
o After the match Big Show hit Snitsky with the ring bell.
* Shelton Benjamin defeated Kerwin White(8:06)
o Benjamin pinned White after a T-Bone Suplex.
* Matt Hardy defeated Edge (w/Lita) in a Steel cage match(21:33)
o Hardy pinned Edge after a Diving leg drop off the top of the cage.
* Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch defeated The Hurricane and Rosey to win the
World Tag Team Championship(7:40)
o Murdoch pinned Hurricane after the Sweet and Sour.
* Shawn Michaels defeated Chris Masters(16:44)
o Michaels pinned Masters after the Sweet Chin Music.
* Kurt Angle defeated WWE Champion John Cena(17:15)
o Cena was disqualified for hitting Angle with the title belt, as a result Cena
retained the title.
2006
The 2006 edition of Unforgiven is set to take place on September 17, 2006 at the
Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
